Jumbo Knit Rug

Hey Y’all!

So, I was at Michael’s looking for buttons the other day and I stumbled across the yarn section (whoops!). But anyway, I saw this delicious jumbo yarn by Loops and Threads and I was instantly in love. Most “big” yarns that I see like this are wool blends and they are really loosely stranded together. This is a problem for me because I have three young kids that like to rip things apart. This yarn however was different.  This yarn is 49% cotton / 28% nylon / 21% polyester / 2% spandex. It is super stretchy and durable. I took apart and re-did this rug three times in my attempt to perfect the pattern and it still held up great. It’s more of a stuffed, sewn fabric tube than yarn. You can find it on Michaels.com. I have also linked a couple other yarns that are big and bold that I found online for your convenience!

Zituop Super Chunky Yarn

Bernat Mega Bulky Yarn

WOW Yarn From LionBrand

For this project you’ll need 245 yards of a Super Bulky Yarn.

This Rug ended up being approximately 3 feet by 2 feet! This would also make an awesome chunky throw if you would rather have a throw than a rug!

The Pattern

245 Yards of a Mega Bulky ( Weight 7 Yarn)

Strong Arms 😉 Or Mega Knitting Needles

Pro tip: I re-did this rug after arm knitting it because I preferred the stitches to be tighter together. Instead of arm knitting for the final product, I “finger knit” it to create this tighter, cleaner look. I would suggest arm knitting if you choose to make a throw instead of a rug because it’ll make a cozier, less weighted blanket. Because I wanted a heavy rug to lay flat, I chose the tighter stitches.

The Pattern:

To Create a 3 foot by 2 foot rug or throw, Cast On 25 Stitches.

Row 1: Knit Each Stitch across (25)

Row 2-34: Repeat Row 1

Cast Off and Weave in Ends.

That’s all folks!

Thanks for stopping by! <3
