Amigurumi, or the Japanese art of creating 3D items out of yarn, is a versatile and easy to learn outlet for crocheters. I personally love creating stuffed animals and dolls for gifts for little kids! I think amigurumi does an excellent job of bridging the gap between traditional crochet and modern crochet; because it brings simple, timeless stitches together to form basically whatever your imagination can procure.
So, as for what my imagination can procure; I’m pretty set on mermaids. This month, I will be publishing both my Mini Mermaid Amigurumi Pattern and my Huggable Mermaid Amigurumi Pattern!
Ever since childhood, I have been obsessed with mermaids, especially Ariel from The Little Mermaid. (I mean, what girl isn’t, right??). When I learned to crochet, the first thing I made was a ballerina mouse. This opened my eyes to the possibilities found within amigurumi shaping; you can truly make anything you want! So I decided to try my hand at mermaids.
This Mini Mermaid Pattern had been floating around in my head for quite a while and came to life when I was speaking to my friend Hannah. She was the Maid of Honor for a
So off I went and somehow managed to have the time to make 13 little dudes in two weeks! I made 12 bridesmaid mermaids and 1 bride mermaid, just for the heck of it. (See photos below)

So, after all of that, I took a year away from Mini Mermaids. As much as I loved them, 13 of them had really worn me out! A month ago, I pulled this pattern back out of the dusty corners of my notebook, sent it off to some testers, and perfected it down to the last stitch!
With that, I am so happy to announce that my pattern is finally up and running in the Shop section and is ready for you to purchase and enjoy! I would love to see your versions of this design, so please tag me on Instagram @createdmakers and #createdmakers so I can see what you make! The color combinations for these little guys are endless, so I’m sooo excited to see what you all come up with!
